Progress or bureaucracy?
Digitalization is intended to improve process quality during asphalt paving and thus ensure longer downtimes. But can it really achieve this, or is it just another bureaucratic nuisance? Can small businesses actually benefit from it, or does it simply result in total surveillance of contractors and workers? Our experts address Florian’s critical questions.
Three experts discuss QSBW 4.0
Some time ago, we already looked at QSBW 4.0. Today, host Florian welcomes three guests who will share their experiences with digitalization in road construction and discuss how companies can make the most of its benefits.
Making road construction companies fit for the future
Digitalization in road construction is coming. Public sector tenders are already almost exclusively based on QSBW 4.0, which is designed to ensure process reliability through digital monitoring. How can small and medium-sized construction companies benefit from this? How do you engage employees and demonstrate the advantages of digitalization for their daily work?

How digitalization in road construction succeeds
To answer these questions, host Florian brought a wealth of expertise to the studio. Dr. Marcus Müller, who previously spoke with us about QSBW 4.0, played a key role in developing the accompanying manual. Today, with his company Smart Site Solutions, he offers software for digitization in road construction.
What does everyday life in road construction look like according to QSBW?
Tim Blankenhorn, site manager for asphalt construction at Gebr. Strohäker GmbH, and Michel Digel, asphalt construction foreman at Gottlob Brodbeck GmbH & Co. KG, bring a practical perspective to the panel discussion and talk about challenges on the construction site and how to engage employees and convince them of the advantages of digitalization.

Does digitalization lead to total surveillance of workers?
All three are convinced of the benefits of digitalization in road construction. For example, the time-critical paving of low-temperature asphalt is easier to plan when everyone involved knows the location of the delivery trucks at all times. The three aren’t afraid of “surveillance”: “They’re concerned with controlling the processes, not the employees,” they emphasize.
