In this course, you will gain an in-depth insight into asphalt types according to current regulations and learn about the purpose, possibilities and limitations of additives. You will understand important laboratory tests for asphalt, including the determination of layer thickness, degree of compaction and void content, the rutting test (APT, Hamburg Wheel Tracker), the determination of the stiffness modulus (4-point bending test) and the water sensitivity test (ITSR). The cold behaviour with elongation at break and tensile strength is also covered in detail.
You will also learn about practical applications, from milling to laying asphalt, both cold and hot. You will also be introduced to failure analysis for layers and degree of compaction in order to avoid future problems and optimise your work.
